Lake George

Central Adirondack Trail, U.S. Highway 9, in Warren County

The village is on Lake George, 32-miles long and rimmed by forested mountains, was referred to by Thomas Jefferson as the most beautiful lake he had seen.

The village of Lake George has long been known as a premier family-oriented resort community. A different experience from most of the other Central Adirondack Trail communities, it offers a large mix of attractions, restaurants, shops and nightlife. You can walk within a two-block radius and rent a boat, watch a war reenactment, relax on the beach, take a cruise, play miniature golf, parasail, hit the arcades, ride in a horse drawn carriage, or just relax on a bench to watch the world go by.

The world's largest motorcycle rally is held here in early June annually. There are year round cultural events and attractions for all interests and all ages.

The many friendly communities like this one along the Central Adirondack Trail Scenic Byway provide the opportunity for an enjoyable walk, refreshment, and to learn more about the region. The 153-mile Central Adirondack Trail forms the shape of a crescent, originating in the fertile lowland areas surrounding the cities of Glens Falls and Rome, and winding through the south-central portion of the Adirondack Park. The Hudson River on the eastern end and the Erie Canal on the west are the gateways to many scenic lakes and mountain streams that are the distinguishing geographic features along much of this scenicby way.
