Winter Carnival Ice Palace
Olympic Byway, State Rt. 3 and State Rt. 86, near Saranac Lake in Franklin County
Nestled on the shores of Lake Flower in Saranac Lake, the Winter Carnival Ice Palace has been the centerpiece of the annual Saranac Lake Winter Carnival since 1898.
The Ice Palace of the Saranac Lake Winter Carnival adorns the shores of Lake Flower in the heart of beautiful Saranac Lake. The Saranac Winter Carnival Ice Palace has been the centerpiece of the town’s ten day annual carnival since 1898. The palace in constructed entirely of two by four foot blocks of ice cut from the bay. A typical palace has about 2000 blocks of ice. The palace is lit with beautiful brightly colored lights, adorned with flags and takes a different architectural shape each year depending on that year’s theme. Fireworks are held over the palace during both the opening and closing weekends of the festival. The festival also features a variety of outdoor sporting events, parades, and indoor entertainment. It is held the first full week in February.
