Saranac River and the Locks
Olympic Byway, State Rt. 3, near Saranac Lake in Franklin County
There are boating locks between Middle and Lower Saranac Lakes, and between Lower and Oseetah, although the drop is only a few feet.
A segment of the Northern Forest Canoe Trail runs through Upper Saranac, across Bartlett Carry into Middle Saranac, through the Upper Locks into Lower Saranac Lake, to First Pond into Second Pond and the Route 3 put in. It continues on to the Lower Locks of the Saranac River, into Oseetah Lake then into Lake Flower at the village of Saranac Lake. This resource is in Section 1 of the Northern Forest Canoe Trail, a 740-mile water route extending from Old Forge in the Adirondack Park to Fort Kent, Maine.
