Adirondack Park Agency Headquarters

Olympic Byway, State Rt. 86, near Saranac Lake in Franklin County

The Adirondack Park Agency, or APA, was created in 1971 by the NYS Legislature to develop long range land use plans for both public and private lands within the Park.

Located on Route 86 in Ray Brook, the APA has an eleven-member board and a staff of over 65. The Agency board meetings take place the second Thursday and Friday of each month and are open to the public. The APA also operates the Visitor Interpretive Centers in Paul Smiths and Newcomb. Open year around, the two facilities serve both visitors and residents with recreational opportunities - including great cross-country skiing - as well as providing environmental education and traveler information.
