Scarface Mountain NYSDEC Trailhead

Olympic Byway, State Rt. 3, near Saranac Lake in Franklin County

Access trails to Scarface Mountain in Ray Brook are great for mountain biking as well as hiking.

In the Saranac Lakes Wild Forest, this route is along the mostly level lower portion of a hiking trail which crosses the actual Ray Brook, passing through an evergreen plantation before ascending Scarface Mountain. If biking, when the trail begins to climb, please leave your bike behind if you wish to continue to the summit of Scarface. Overall an easy, singletrack trail of 2 miles one way. To reach trailhead, turn south from NY Route 86 onto Ray Brook Road in Ray Brook, across from NY State Police Headquarters. Go about 0.1 miles and look for sign and parking lot on left.
