Sacandaga River Day Use & Picnic Area
Adirondack Trail, State Rt. 30, near Northville in Fulton County
An out of the way picnic site near the Sacandaga River that is well worth the trip.
From Route 30 in Wells, at the Wells Power Dam on the southeastern corner of Lake Algonquin, take Algonquin drive roughly a mile westward to West River Road. Bear left and proceed uphill, then downhill, to Ranger Road. Pull in 100 yards and park. A tributary branch of the Sacandaga River is nearby for picnickers to explore or cool themselves in. Continue further down West River Road to Whitehouse, a famous old hunting camp, now state owned and open to informal car camping. The Northville-Lake Placid Trail can be accessed here.
