Raquette Lake

Central Adirondack Trail, State Rt. 28, near Raquette Lake in Hamilton County

Raquette Lake covers 5,935 acres; this waterfront Hamlet is located at the crossroads of Uncas Road, Sagamore Road, and Route 28, west of Blue Mountain Lake.

Majority of the shoreline of Raquette Lake is owned by New York State. The hamlet came into being in part because of construction of the Raquette Lake railroad created by William West Durant around 1900. Durant’s nearby Great Camp Uncas was sold to J.P. Morgan and Great Camp Sagamore was purchased by Alfred Vanderbilt. The 98 miles of shoreline, deep bays, and popular Marion River and Raquette River continue to bring visitors from all over.
