Moosehead Mountain near Childwold

Olympic Byway, State Rt. 3, near Tupper Lake in Franklin County

A mountain of 2,070 feet in the southeast corner of St. Lawrence County, it would seem to be one of the lesser-known peaks on the Route 3 corridor.

Moosehead Mountain was the site of a former Conservation Department firetower, erected in 1910 and closed in 1968 and later removed. Located west of Childwold and east of Sevey, hikers can access a trail to the top via Moosehead Mountain Road, just off Route 3, east of Route 56.
