Black River Cartop Launch & Portage near Deferiet
Olympic Byway, County Rt. 3, near Deferiet in Jefferson County
The Orion Power Deferiet Cartop Launch is located in the southern portion of town, just before the dam and northward channel that reconnects with the Black River a mile or so downstream.
The Orion Power Deferiet Alternate Portage Route runs from the Launch area to a quieter and less rapid, rocky area of the BR close to the Route 3 bridge. A pleasant stretch of trail through gently wooded terrain awaits you. Fishing is good below Deferiet and Fort Drum.
