Trenton Falls Gorge
Central Adirondack Trail, State Rt. 28 and State Rt. 12, near Barneveld in Oneida County
Visitors will find scenic overlooks, wildlife observation, informational panels and views of the hydroelectric operation and facilities, picnic areas, and points of historic interest.
The West Canada Creek roars through, spilling several hundred feet to create the breathtaking falls. Once a world-famous retreat, the falls attracted artists, poets and the wealthy. Geologists have studied the fossils imbedded in the limestone of the gorge which date back 450 million years. Now seasonally open in the spring and two weekends autumn, thousands flock to Trenton Falls Gorge to hike the trails and picnic.
Features several falls that drop 300 vertical feet, a two-mile trail, two NYS DEC fishing accesses, and new interpretive signs.
