Town of Duane Pond and Bog Trail and Observation Area
Adirondack Trail, State Rt. 30, near Malone in Franklin County
The Duane Pond and Floating Bog observation deck is located in the Town of Duane in the Adirondack Mountains in Franklin County.
A ten minute walk on a dirt trail with short gradual inclines lined with ferns, mosses, evergreens, and hardwood trees leads to a quiet spot to observe wildlife and listen to the sounds of nature. The map board at the parking lot shows the walking and cross-country ski paths.
The path to the left immediately behind the church is more scenic and its surface is smoother. The Romanesque Revival, circa 1844 church is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The church bell which was forged in 1886 in Troy, NY has been moved from the bell tower to a pedestal base on the grounds.
At the end of the trail to the pond visitors will find an interesting interpretive sign that explains the life of the bog during the four seasons. Picnic table and handicap ramp access to the covered observation deck are located at the end of the path at this quiet nature site.
