Miles of dirt roads and trails are available and well-signed in the Speculator Mountain Bike Loop complex, just off the Adirondack Trail Scenic Byway
Mountain Bike the Speculator Loop and Kunjamuk Cave Loop
Adirondack Trail, State Rt. 30 and State Rt. 8, near Speculator in Hamilton County
The trail system consists of two bike loops, the larger is 13.7 miles long, and the shorter Kunjamuk Cave loop is 7.2 miles long.
Hit the trail in Speculator, where you can bike The Speculator Loop which was featured in the Adirondack Life 2003 Annual Guide. The trail passes through a working tree farm and offers recreational opportunities to the public, as well as protection for wildlife and watersheds. All trail signs make reference to the Speculator ball field and pavilion, in both directions of travel. The larger loop is accessed from all parking lots, which have informational kiosks where you may obtain detailed trail maps and information regarding the trails. The trails are open from May 15 to October 12, and are free.
This mountain biking trail system resulted from a community effort of the Speculator area and is one of the nicer mountain biking trail systems in the region. Hamilton County offers a great diversity of bicycling, including a number of gravel and dirt roads, providing the opportunity to experience wilderness areas along quiet back roads.
