North Creek Depot
Central Adirondack Trail, State Rt. 28, near North Creek in Warren County
With rail service to North Creek completed in 1871 and the present station built in 1872, the North Creek Depot welcomed the industrialists of the Gilded Age.
During the 1870s the North Creek Train Depot may have been the last stop on the railroad, but it was the beginning of the journey. William West Durant improved the stage road from North Creek to Blue Mountain Lake. Those journeying to their camps in Indian Lake, Blue Mountain Lake and Raquette Lake would continue by stage. Theodore Roosevelt left here on his way to be sworn in as President of the United States. The depot received and dispatched shipments of grain, garnet, titanium and Sears and Roebuck homes; welcomed skiers in winter and families seeking adventure and beauty of this land. In June 2001, work began on restoring 40 miles of track between Corinth in Saratoga County and the Hamlet of North Creek. An excursion train runs seasonally between North Creek and Riparious. Located at 5 Railroad Place in North Creek, the home of the North Creek Depot Museum invites locals and visitors alike to come see how it became the Adirondacks’ first major transportation hub.
