Kamargo Poors Island Portage
Olympic Byway, State Rt. 3, near Felts Mills in Jefferson County
To be found at the river end of Main Street, south of Black River village, this provides a 2 mile portage route through a rocky stretch of water.
An easy, fairly short, gravel/dirt trail which runs along the Black River, features water views, mill ruins, and fossils when the water levels are low. Open dawn to dusk all year. The tip of island trail provides boat access to river at the base of a man-made waterfall. Boaters are advised of swift moving currents. Take Route 3 to Black River. At the light, turn south on Main Street. Just before the bridge, turn right onto St. Regis Street Private Way. Look for a brown Kamargo Recreation sign. Drive over bridge, parking area is on right. Walk around gate and down road.
