Jervis Public Library
Central Adirondack Trail, State Rt. 26 and State Rt. 46, near Rome in Oneida County
Located at 613 North Washington Street, the Jervis Public Library serves the community of Rome and has extensive historical archives.
The library took its name from prominent American civil engineer John Bloomfield Jervis, who bequeathed funds, property, and his personal collection of books and papers for the purpose of founding a library facility for the citizens of his home town. Melville Dewey, inventor of the famous Dewey Decimal System for classifying books, helped draft Jervis Library's bylaws.
